PM Hun Sen to fly to Beijing this afternoon

Prime Minister Hun Sen said today that he is leading a delegation to visit Beijing this afternoon before returning to Cambodia.

In a Facebook post today, Mr Hun Sen said that the Chinese government has arranged his visit to Beijing to meet Chinese leaders to reaffirm his stance not to evacuate Cambodian officials and students from China and learn the efforts in which Chinese government has provided to Cambodian students in Wuhan.

“I have actually planned to leave South Korea for Wuhan city in order to visit our 23 Cambodian students there,” he said. “But at 11 pm last night, Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that the Chinese side could not arrange my visit to Wuhan due to the severe outbreak of corona-virus and those students are not allowed to leave the city.”

“I will lead a delegation and depart South Korea for Beijing before returning to Cambodia,” Mr Hun Sen said. “I want to thank everyone for wishing me good health. I would like to wish all Cambodian students in Wuhan good luck.”

A Chinese embassy official confirmed today that Mr Hun Sen is scheduled to arrive in Beijing this afternoon.

In a meeting with Cambodian citizens in South Korea on Monday, Mr Hun Sen announced that he would visit Cambodian students in Wuhan if the Chinese government had allowed him to do so.
